Search for the Phoenix Phoenix Series Book 2 eBook Jim Proctor Cynthia Shepp

The last time we saw Nolan Peters in Veronica Phoenix, he’d been taken into custody by SACOM. In Search for the Phoenix, we return to Nolan to learn what transpired for him after SACOM tired of questioning him about the disappearance of Carl Wilkins, the captain of the ship Nolan served on. Nolan himself wants the answers to these questions, and this book follows his adventures as he seeks out his old friend. He joins up with Megan Carson, the widow of one of Nolan’s fellow crew members, and they conspire together to keep SACOM off their trail as they seek out Carl and the Phoenix.
There’s something of the film noire detective movies in Proctor’s writing. Little gin joints where the honest and nefarious rub elbows. Hidden agendas. But the future never gets lost in the story telling. Proctor has a facility for explaining the technical stuff without losing the reader in any sort of techno babble.
It’s an admirable story, well told and filled with exciting and fun complications. Nolan and Megan move towards each other in a well-choreographed dance of friendship transitioning into love. A military coup blows the roof off a questionable operation. And in the middle of it all, a sweet respite on a world where life is simple and quiet.
This is Proctor’s best work to date, and I highly recommend it.

Search for the Phoenix Phoenix Series Book 2 eBook Jim Proctor Cynthia Shepp Reviews

Anyone who loves or even likes science fiction books/movies a teeny wee bit will absolutely find pleasure in Search for the Phoenix. It made me long to kick back on the couch, with a huge bowl of popcorn, and binge watch my favorite scifi shows. It also made me wish food synthesizers weren't only found in the land of make-believe. So inventors, hop to it and contact me to be your guinea pig because I'd happily put this invention to the test. )

Besides this wicked cool product idea, I enjoyed the level of conspiracy, double-cross happenings and the chemistry between the various characters.

One of my favorite interactions of the book didn't happen between humans though. Strangely enough, it occurred between Nolan and the rats. When he shrieked, ran, and smacked his head against a large, water pipe, I laughed because I would've reacted the same way. Heck, ain't no shame in showing fear or running away from a rodent. Those pests are scary!

Now for the conspiracy, double-crossing aspects of the story, which made up a great portion of this creation, I'm going to quote Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith and say, “I love it when a plan comes together.”
The basic premise of this novel is an evil government space entity did some bad stuff, and people died. They blamed it on a guy named Carl, who disappeared shortly after they ruined his life. This novel starts after Car;'s coworker and friend Nolen is brought in by the government and tortured because they thought he might know something about Carl. When Nolen is released, he's stricken by a hunger for the truth, which mean he has to find Carl, where ever he is.

First off, SACOM (Strategic Aerospace Command) is a scary as s*** government type entity. They are greedy, crooked and supper powerful; unlawful arrests, torture, murder and espionage...
There is some subtle romance between Nolan and the widow of his old friend, Megan. It's a sweet and slow romance that is built at a steady comfortable pace that respects the com plexity of their relationship and shared tragic loss.
One of my favorite things about Proctor's writing is the sciency imagination. I love sciency stuff. I have been known to watch Neil Degrasse Tyson's Cosmos over and over and over again...love that business. Both books in the Phoenix series is chalk full of this sort of stuff, like jumping into or out of hyper space too close to a solar system could mean coming out of it inside a planet, or the freaking star! Wow. I never thought of that...
There are so many thrilling twists and turns, especially about 50% in. Big twist. It's a fun ride.
I couldn't stop reading the story. I had to follow the adventure to see what what's going to happen next. I really enjoyed reading this story and hope to read more stories written be Jim Proctor.
I wondered if the 2nd book could equal the first. New characters were introduced to the narrative and the author tied it all together seamlessly. I liked the combination of sci-fi future with many aspects of the the world of today. Looking forward to reading more from this creative writer.
Another excellent read. This is another one that kept me up too late; just one more chapter...Well done and moves along at hyper speed. The theft of the ship had me seeing it all in my head. Great story all about loyalty, faith and hope with a dash of love thrown in. Good job.
This second book in the Phoenix series is filled with intrigue and suspense. I recommend reading the first book, Veronica Phoenix, because this book continues from were the first book ended. It has many characters which I sometimes found hard to keep straight. The main characters, Nolan and Megan, were well developed. As they race through the universe that Mr. Procter has created, to stay ahead of conspirators at SACOM, a military establishment, they also are dealing with a growing attraction for each other. This is great science fiction and drama and I highly recommend this book.
Search for the Phoenix is a continuation of Proctor’s first book in the series, Veronica Phoenix. I really enjoyed reading both books. Search for the Phoenix brings with it a new set of characters that were in the peripheral of the first book, but show you the story from another viewpoint. It then takes the story down a different path completely, but wraps it up nicely at the end. All in all, a well-written story.
The characters are believable, and the futuristic world the author has created is intriguing. It kept me interested and I wanted to see how it ended. I was invested enough in the lives of the characters that then end of the story mattered.
Nicely done.
