Ok. I liked this second installment in the Josie Quinn series a lot, but there is something that really bugs me! And it is no small thing because the entire plot line springs from it! I will be vague so I don't ruin it for anyone. Why doesn't Luke just report the murders instead of covering them up??? He's a police officer, it makes no sense that he covers them up! If he would've just acted like the police officer he is, there would be no story. I get it, but that's the problem. It's why I can't give this book five stars. It is stupid. So basically we're reading a book based on an unexplained and bizarre decision that we, as readers, have to digest. It's not ever addressed as to why Luke, who was a great character in the first book, acts completely different from what we know of him. Needless to say, he's not likeable anymore. He acts like a different person altogether, and we are only led to believe that he's been through a traumatic event, so perhaps this is why he goes against his training as an officer and as a human being. It's an odd choice the author makes and it's not sold well, at least to this reader. Because of this I walk away wondering a lot..... I don't feel satiated with the ending, as Josie does not question Luke enough, on anything. As his fiancee I would certainly ask more questions. There are other things that are silly as well. It's a super convoluted plot that leaves a lot of questions unanswered as well as unexplored. Motivation as to why people do things is always big to me, and a lot of these people just don't have any motivating factors that make good sense. Sure, people are off sometimes, but there are a lot of people running around in a very small town, doing a lot of strange things, for even stranger reasons. It's a far reach, to say the very least. The suspense factor is here, I wanted to finish and get to the end. I like Josie, Noah and the overall feel of this series. I will read the third installment if there is one. But I hope it's a bit more believable. Her first one must be read first I think, or you may give up. I'm truly disappointed in the way it goes down with Luke. Maybe in the third we'll get some more answers. I'm looking forward to finding out!

I just finished both books by Lisa Regan and have signed up to follow her so I’ll know when the third one is released. I like the way she develops her characters and develops the plot. I read both books cover to cover because they were so well written. The only thing that got to me was the emotional reaction Josie has to job-related events. Even though she is a hot head she should still be able to control herself and at least sometimes save her reactions for when she is alone instead of constantly risking her job to wear her emotions on her sleeve. I guess that’s the point of it all though, but you have to wonder how long it would before she would lose her job as the police chief.
This is the second book in, what so far, is a trilogy. It can be read as a stand alone novel, but I’m the kind of reader that likes to start at the beginning and watch the characters grow.
In the first book Josie Quinn is a detective, with second she has been promoted to Chief of Police. The story starts out with the abduction of a new born, then Josie’s fiancé is abducted, you learn as the story unfolds just what the relationships are between the characters. There are random news story chapters that seem unrelated that will leave you scratching your head.The story line is a great example of 6 degrees of separation. It keeps you guessing with twists and turns until the very end. Can’t wait to start the next book ‘Her Mother’s Grave’.
I just finished The Girl with No Name and again, Lisa Regan got me. I loved this book. I think I might have liked it better than the first in the series and that’s no easy task because I loved The Vanishing Girls too.
I admit it. I’m too emotionally attached to Josie Quinn. I feel everything she feels even when she isn’t expressing her feelings. She’s such a strong character and so well fleshed out, I feel like she’s a real person. This book really pulled at my heartstrings. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I’m overwhelmed and ruined after reading this.
Lisa did a wonderful job of weaving the plot in a way that kept me from being able to guess what would happen next. I was on the edge of my seat, flipping pages rapidly to see if my guesses were correct.
As far as happy endings go, this book has one, kind of. I can’t say much without giving something away, but I will point out some of the things I loved about this book.
I love the relationship between Josie and Trinity. What a dynamic pair. Their relationship really bumps this story into overdrive for me. The same is true for their interactions in The Vanishing Girls.
I love the relationship between Josie and Noah. I hope Noah gets a romantic relationship in the next book. That man deserves a great woman. He’s such a great and caring guy. I love how he’s the caretaker in his relationship with Josie.
I also love the setting. I feel like I know Denton. Lisa didn’t over describe the town or the settings, but she gave enough and put the descriptions in enough (or in the right places) to help me understand the town and feel like they know it. This is important for the series since we're going to be in Denton for every book and we need to have a connection with the town.
I can’t wait for the next installment. What will Josie Quinn do next? Please, Ms. Regan, get to writing the next in the series.
I listened this on Audible and definitely don't recommend that you go digital. The story is OK so the print version is recommended instead.
The narrator/reader read the entire book in a way that made the lead character totally unlikable. Tone of voice is critical and in every conversation she sounded angry, accusatory, condescending, including to her staff who were supposed to be her partners in the investigation - this was off-putting as I don't think the author meant for the lead to be such and awful person. Also, the editing missed a significant number of mispronounced words and it was really distracting.

Bottom line, go for print.
