My apologies for any typographical errors and the kinds of errors that result from cutting-and-pasting gone awry. Direct Publishing makes it possible for authors to reach their audiences directly, but it also means that many authors are their own editors and proofreaders. They are also their own webmasters since eBooks are html documents.
On August 13, 2012, I posted a corrected version, 1.10. I have asked to notify everyone who purchased the Handbook of the update. Anyone who wishes may request the updated copy regardless of whether sends out a formal notice. However, “the new version will not have previously saved Highlights, Last Page Read, Bookmarks, and the location of notes may not match”. I regret any inconvenience this might cause.
The Little Handbook of Statistical Practice 1 Gerard Dallal
Dallas has covered the bases. No extraneous stuff. Appropriate for undergraduates who need to think critically about the statistics they will discover and use in the careers. As a teacher of undergraduates first encountering statistics, I appreciate his viewpoint that hones my own presentation.Product details

The Little Handbook of Statistical Practice 1 Gerard Dallal Reviews
Good, simple, guide guide to the practical use of statistics....
If you have read other statistical literature and found them to be cumbersome you certainly will find this handbook as very accessible. The benefit is probably that you later can go back to the other literature to discover them to be more understandable. I would say this book is an "enabler". If you are looking for more depth this is probably not the literature you want.
Sometimes statistics seems so complex that its meaning is not readily apparent. This is one of the books that makes the meaning of this field accessible to anyone. Finding this was big turning point in my understanding of stats at an early level. I highly recommend it for anyone trying to navigate the world of early statistical education.
This is a wonderful handbook to enrich any introductory statistics course, or to give teachers and practitioners a deeper understanding than they will get from most textbooks. You can read it online for free, so go, do. Then, if you like it (which you likely will), buy it here. Dallal's explanations are clear, sound, and thoughtful. If you want to really understand statistics, not just master the mechanics of hypothesis testing and regression analysis, read this delightful and insightful book.
This easy-to-use reference is exactly what I needed. I have some background in statistical analysis but this helps me find those pieces of information I either don't know or can't remember. The prices can't be beat!
I've been learning biostatistics for a little over a year now, and even as I advance to complex methods beyond the scope of what Dallal has written here, I continue to return to this text to remind myself of the intuition and nuances of statistical thinking. It's exceptionally well-written and accessible. As a writer turns to Shrunk & White's Elements of Style, a statistician should turn to Dallal's Little Handbook of Statistical Practice.
This is a great stat reference to carry with you, especially on a mobile device. Although it's by necessity written in statistic-ese and one has to be careful in making sure to find the right topic and understand it, it's the most user-friendly yet authoritative reference I've found. The Introduction is a must-read. This book started as a web-site and has been visited over a million times by people like myself who know just enough statistical theory to cause trouble. Hopefully, this book will keep us on the straight and narrow.
Dallas has covered the bases. No extraneous stuff. Appropriate for undergraduates who need to think critically about the statistics they will discover and use in the careers. As a teacher of undergraduates first encountering statistics, I appreciate his viewpoint that hones my own presentation.
